Athletics

At SCS we believe there are many health benefits to being physically active.

Participating in sports encourages children to learn valuable lessons of teamwork and good sportsmanship. We offer a large variety of opportunities to be involved in sports, both during physical education class and as extra-curricular activities and competitive teams. These varied choices allow students the chance to hone their skills or try something new.

SCS belongs to the Association of Christian Schools International. Through this organization our students are able to compete against other Christian Schools throughout the Greater Toronto Area. We compete in a variety of tournaments at venues such as York University, Centennial Stadium, Dagmar Ski Resort (Cross-Country) and the Stouffville Arena.

  • At SCS we offer a wide range of sports which include

    • Soccer
    • Cross-Country
    • Ice Hockey
    • Basketball
    • Volleyball
    • Swimming
    • Track and Field
    • Softball
    • Badminton
    • Flag Football
    • Ultimate Frisbee

The Arts

Stouffville Christian School believes in the importance of providing students with a high-quality program where they learn to develop skills in visual arts, performing arts, and music.

We believe the arts play a key role in the academic and spiritual development of our students, in addition to improving communication and social skills.

  • Visual Arts

Visual arts is a regular component of programming for students from JK through Grade 8. Students are able to participate in meaningful creative art activities which focus on the elements and principles of design using a variety of media. They are also exposed to a wide range of works of art as a means of fostering art appreciation, including art that reflects our distinct heritage as Canadians, and celebrates Canada’s First Nations culture.

Students have the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents in a more formal setting at various times throughout the year, both within our school and at various local venues such as the Markham Fair and Latcham Gallery.

  • Performing Arts

Each year, the student body is given the opportunity to participate in the performing arts program. This includes drama activities and the production of a school-wide musical. Through these presentations, students are able to develop and share their talents in front of an audience, which helps them build their confidence.

  • Music

Music is an integral subject for every student from Kindergarten to Grade 8. In the early years, students explore music and movement through a variety of songs and percussion instruments. In the primary grades students continue to learn the elements of music through singing, recorders, and ukulele. Students in Grades 5 to 8 are given the opportunity to learn a band instrument and develop musical skills through both individual and ensemble playing. Performance opportunities at SCS include our annual Christmas concert, Spring Musical, and Grandparents Day.

Special Events

Harvest day is a tradition which students have participated in for more than 30 years. This special day is a time of giving, when we deliver baskets of fresh produce and other items to the local community.

Students have the opportunity to interact with people in the community as they drop off food baskets to local residents of a seniors home, and deliver non-perishable items to the local food bank. This event teaches students to look outside their own lives to help others in need.

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

- Acts 20:35

Each spring, a special day is set aside to recognize the important role which grandparents play in our students’ lives. This day provides an opportunity for grandparents to visit with their grandchildren in the classroom, enjoy a presentation by the students, and be served a luncheon put on by the school. This day is a favourite of students, staff, and grandparents alike!

Every year, the students and staff put on a musical production for families to enjoy. The event includes acting, singing, choreographed dance, and a Bible-based message. It allows students to showcase their talents while learning valuable lessons in teamwork and collaboration.

As a means to encourage students to honour God with the work of their hands and express their creativity, a fine arts festival is held every year. Students create works of art for this event both individually, and as part of the student body, which are then displayed and celebrated by the school community.

Students in all the grades have the opportunity to do an oral presentation during our annual Speech Meet. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 present a poem or scripture passage, while Grades 5 to 8 have the opportunity to write and present their own speeches or Bible stories. Some students go on to be entered into an area-wide competition at the ACSI Public Speaking Festival.
